THE DETAILS BEHIND THE GAME
Rules & rewards

Play fair. Sign clearly.
- Use good lighting and keep your face, shoulders, arms and hands visible.
- Sign the assigned meaning accurately. Reviewers watch the silent video and independently write its meaning.
- You cannot review your own submission. Do not share prompts, answers or accounts.
- Submissions require independent review before points are approved. Unclear or conflicting results may require additional review; submitting a task does not guarantee approval.
Keep it real: report unusable videos
If an assigned video contains no signing, an obvious spam or fake attempt, or is too unclear to translate, select “This video is not translatable”. Choose the reason that matches what you actually see:
- No signing / obvious spam or fake attempt — for a video that is not a genuine signing attempt.
- Too dark, obscured or unclear to translate — for unusable recording quality. Poor lighting or unclear signing alone is not a cheating strike.
You do not need to invent a translation to report a video. Unfamiliar ASL, a different signing style, or disagreement about meaning is not evidence of cheating. Reports must be honest and independent; do not coordinate flags or use linked accounts to create extra votes.
When a video is removed
Three eligible, independent reviewers must report the video as unusable, with no established agreement from three reviewers on its meaning, before reports can automatically remove it. One or two reports alone do not remove a video or create a strike. You cannot review or flag your own video; known linked accounts do not count as separate people.
If the initial three reviewers disagree, the panel can expand to five. An established three-person meaning consensus is not automatically overturned by flags; conflicting evidence needs further review. Normal approval requires three of three agreeing on meaning and usable quality, or four of five after expansion, passing technical checks and no unresolved critical meaning dispute. Agreement means the same meaning, not matching English words.
A confirmed unusable video leaves task circulation and approved corpus coverage and receives no new rewards. Its private video and review evidence remain available for audit. Reporting a video does not automatically earn points.
Warnings and three strikes
A misconduct strike requires three independent spam/non-signing reports on one video. Three poor-quality reports, or a mix with fewer than three spam/non-signing reports, can reject the video without a strike. One confirmed video can create only one strike.
- First strike: only points earned from that video are revoked. Your other points remain.
- Second strike: again, only points earned from that video are revoked. Your other points remain.
- Third strike: all remaining current game points are forfeited, leaderboard entries are removed, and your ability to sign or validate is cancelled. Known linked accounts share this enforcement.
If an unapproved video earned no points, there are no video points to deduct on the first two strikes. Repeated processing or duplicate reports cannot charge the same incident twice.
A red ✕ warning with your strike count appears in your account while signed in and on your next login: “You must submit real, meaningful ASL.” It explains the consequences of another confirmed incident.
These penalties apply to the points system; they do not claim to reverse external cash payments. If you dispute a restriction, use the private request form in Account. Cancelled users can still submit a request; submitting one does not automatically restore access.
Understanding the $36/hour equivalent
UMI has committed to a cash rate of $0.01 per approved signing second: $0.10–$0.25 for an approved 10–25-second signing challenge.
$36 is a time equivalent: 3,600 continuously approved signing seconds × $0.01. It is not an hourly wage or a guarantee. Preparation, retakes, uploads, waiting and unavailable tasks reduce earnings per hour spent participating. The signing rate does not apply to time spent reviewing videos.
Game points and approved cash earnings are tracked separately. Game points do not automatically convert to dollars; your wallet shows your withdrawable cash balance.
The intended cash-out minimum is $50 in approved cash earnings. Saved PayPal or Venmo details are payout preferences, not verified or connected payment accounts. Cash withdrawal is not currently available.
$5,000 Bonus Pool
UMI has committed $5,000 to a bonus competition. This is the total pool, not an individual award or a guaranteed payment to every player.
The bonus competition is not accepting entries. No current ranking, point total or task completion establishes prize eligibility. Participation eligibility, scoring, tie-breaks, dates and award allocation have not been established; there are no active bonus award terms.

Your contributions
Participation requires agreement to UMI’s use of signing videos, prompts, interpretations and review results, including failed attempts, for research, AI model training and evaluation. Your face and signing may identify you.
Your saved agreement is available in Account. Stop contributing in Account stops further participation and future eligible exports while preserving your original agreement and license records.
